Camberwick Green Characters
|
Camberwick
Green figurines by Robert Harrop are ever popular. Gordon Murray, the
creator of the Camberwick Green spent time in his local park seeking
ideas for a new children's TV program.
Gordon wanted to make a spectacular for children. A musical spectacular!
Camberwick Green was born. A village with lots of characters but no
stars. The star would be the location - a rural village - Camberwick
Green - and everyone would be nice, and kind, and helpful, and happy.
Gordon began with the postman. He would be a link between settings, with
a recognisable uniform. This would be the standard Camberwick
Green character. The ball shaped head would be shared by all characters.
The nose and hair could be varied, plus moustaches, beards and
spectacles as required. The body and clothes were polyurethene foam on a
skeleton of aluminium wire, which has no spring in it. Gordon made
copies of the patterns so that they could be adapted to suit other
characters. With the postman standing before him, Gordon started writing
the first script - Camberwick Green, episode one . . . |
